Wildflowers and mountains in Axamer Lizum

Axamer Lizum is a famous place for skiing in winter as the Olympic Winter Games of 1964 and 1976 took place there. It also offers many hiking paths with splendid views in summer. I took a postbus of 4162 from Innrain/Medicent to Koegele, Axams. On the way, the bus went through pretty alpine villages called Goetzen, Birgitz and Axams. There was another bus (again with the same number 4162) connecting to Axamer Lizum up in woods. Timetable and fares were easily found in www.vvt.at .

Pic1 : A view from Axamer Lizum lift station. Only one lift to Birgitzhaus is operational in summer. Lizum stands for a pasture as you can see. One can get to see many cows, goats and lambs with a shepherd dog chasing them.

It was still cloudy when I reached Axamer Lizum but soon turned sunny.

Pic 2: Majestic mountains surround a small church.

First I decided to hike towards Hoadl and found a unusual church with a modern architecture to be found in the village.

Pic 3: The mountain train track leads to Hoadl (above). Hoadlhaus is seen from other side of mountain.

In winter, Olympiabahn goes up to Hoadlhaus through a high slope-train track. Opposite side of the mountain is Widdersberg where I aimed to hike.

Pic 4: The left most peak is Widdersberg.

Pic 5: A small hut is located just beneath the stony peaks.

Continued to hike up till a small hut and decided to take a lunch break around the hut. The hut was closed in the summer and open in the winter for ski tourers.

Pic 6: Alpine wildflowers were all around.

Pic 7: Malgrubenspitze and Hochtennspitze.

Awesome views of peaky mountains took my breath away. This is something I can never forget; blue sky, cotton cloud, stony peaks with patches of snow and wildflowers.

Pic 8: Widdersberg sattel (2262 m). Sattel in German means saddle.

Pic 9: My favourite terrain is a saddle. As I walk on the edge, I can see both sides of the mountains.

There end is Widdersberg (2327 m). First attempt to conquer was bitterly failed by a lamb chasing me with such an emotionless face. I was really scared. An Austrian couple passing by told me that lambs are very friendly and sober creatures, not like cows. I half-believed them and went further. There were many more lambs very near to the peak and it made me freaking crazy. I avoided eye contact with them and walked faster, and at last, I was at Widdersberg.

 Pic 10: Finally Widdersberg!

And that is the Widdersberg peak.

l
Pic 11: Malgrubenspitze (2571 m) is right opposite to Widdersberg.

I climbed little bit up toward Malgrubenspitze. Climbing up was rather fun but then down was horrible. I almost crawled down with four legs.

Pic 12: Spitze in Kakkoegel.

On the way down, I slowed down several times to turn back and see these unforgettable peaks.

Pic 13: Me when taking lunch break.

Extra info:
Total distance covered : about 7.7 km.
Restaurants/huts are located near to Axamer Lizum station, none up in the mountains.
Good for a day trip.

Pic 14 : Route I covered is marked in blue.

I have taken the kompass map without any permission. It is just purely for my personal record, not for any profitable purpose.
